Quality Manager required by this leading defence organisation, based in Cumbria, to be the site quality focus ensuring quality planning and requirements are met, keeping the customer and their acceptance standards satisfied, ensuring quality accreditation of the site is ensured and maintained in line with ISO9001:2000 and with project and production schedules. This role is subject to MOD security clearance, all applicants must be able to meet the required criteria.
It is important the Quality Manager has the ability to lead a team and manage and develop people. You will need a strong understanding of Metrology including measurement systems and measurement variance. Mechanical Engineering/Machine shop experience would be ideal. Familiar with advanced quality planning tools and techniques.
Key responsibilities: Site responsibility for Quality planning including resource planning to meet site quality objectives. Responsibility for quality finance and budgetary management.
Delegated authority for the determination and implementation of the Barrow site strategic quality objectives. Co-ordination & control of the Quality Assurance resource to meet site objectives. To provide arbitration and authority for issues which could impact on Product/Project Quality. Management of systems through audit and measurement to cover the requirements laid out in ISO 9001:2000.
Continuous Improvement and maintenance of all Quality Assurance processes.
Ensure quality planning takes place on all projects including design, software and hardware that relate to the Barrow site through the product lifecycle to Lifecycle management (LCM) requirements from tender to product release. Control and Management of supply based quality planning and control issues liaising closely with the vendor assurance team. Management of data integrity and performance measurement systems to support project and operations activities.

First line contact to liaise and support customer representatives including MOD (Ministry of Defence and DoD Department of Defence representatives), dealing with customer complaints and concerns for all quality and process related issues. To conduct regular performance reviews and to recruit and develop staff. To lead and direct quality teams in performing interpretation of specifications and quality characteristics through to quality planning, inspection and test. Processing of conforming items and disposition of non-conforming items. Support the internal Material Review Board (MRB), lead quality improvement groups (QIGs) and support the implementation of Statistical Process Control (SPC). Managing timely deliverables across multiple programmes to internal and external customers to the correct quality standard.
