Applications are invited for a Professorial Leader of Engineering Design with effect from 1st April 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College London. It forms part of the new Design-London partnership between Imperial and the neighbouring Royal College of Art in South Kensington.

Department of Mechanical Engineering Professorial Leader of Engineering Design

Imperial College is one of Europes leading teaching and research institutions and the Department of Mechanical Engineering had the highest possible rating in the last Research Assessment Exercise.

We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic academic staff member of the highest calibre in the general area of design. You will manage the design teaching in the department with a coherent strategy and vision, based on a deep understanding of todays and tomorrows manufacturing industry. We expect you to raise the profile of design as a unifying theme of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula within the Faculty of Engineering, and improve the quality of its teaching. You will also provide leadership and direction for engineering design teaching within the Industrial Design Engineering course, run jointly with the Royal College of Art.
Candidates for the post will have extensive and relevant experience of design and a high level of motivation to teach design and to interact with students. You will also have evidence of successful management of staff at group and departmental level.
