Materials Production Team Leader - required by this leading Defence organisation to be responsible for all aspects of production and delivery of both bulk slices and epitaxial layers of the semiconductor Cadmium Mercury Telluride (CMT) using metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE), liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) and bulk growth techniques. This will demand a varied knowledge of physics, chemistry and general engineering skills together with the ability to liaise with internal and external customers. The production team will consist of operatives, technicians and junior engineers and the successful candidate will be responsible for their day-to-day supervision and will set the priorities. The successful candidate will also be expected to be able to grow and assess CMT layers by MOVPE.

Tasks will include planning the requirements and the equipments to ensure sufficient throughput of material to satisfy all customer needs. The maintenance of the equipment, both preventative and day-to-day will be critical to the success of the team. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to optimisation of the growth and assessment processes and to set clear targets for the team members. Good communication skills and computer literacy are essential.
Main Duties:
Plan the production schedules for epitaxial layer and bulk slice requirements. Organise and direct the personnel, including him/herself for MOVPE requirements, on the growth and assessment kits to produce the required material. Fix the maintenance schedules for the growth and assessment kits and ensure they are carried out. Supply all production material requirements to both internal and external customers. Maintain and develop material databases. Be responsible for safe working environments in growth and assessment labs. Remain aware of new growth and characterisation developments, both internal and external.
The Materials Production Team Leader will be educated to at least first Degree in Physics and/or Chemistry and/or Materials Science ESSENTIAL. You will be experienced in Production engineering disciplines, including running a small team ESSENTIAL. Crystal growth experience, particularly MOVPE is preferred. Characterisation techniques (optical, electrical, structural, etc.) would also be preferred. You will need to be experienced in spreadsheets/databases/word processing (MS Office).
This person must be an effective communicator with all levels. You will need a good understanding of safe working practices around semiconductor growth.
