PRODUCTION ENGINEER
STEEL PRODUCTION
SCUNTHORPE, ROTHERHAM & TEESSIDE
We are seeking a Production Engineer to be responsible for developing, managing and implementing production plans in the most efficient, safe and cost effective way in order to meet department business objectives, whilst at the same time meeting the specification and delivery requirements of the customer.
Working in conjunction with the Production Control Engineer, Manufacturing Manager and the other Production/Maintenance Engineers, you will seek and implement improvements in safety, operations and productivity.
As Production Engineer, you will be responsible for first-line management and control of the work force on all production, technical and maintenance activities within a specified area of responsibility with due regard for safety, to achieve departmental objectives. This requires prioritising, directing and monitoring of work for Engineering Supervisors/Team Leaders, craft and non-craft grades within the department as well as for service departments and outside Contractors.
You will determine with the Manufacturing Manager/ Production Control Engineer the operational priorities of the Workshop, and will be responsible for achieving departmental profitability and viability targets by the effective utilisation of manpower and resources meeting customer requirements on delivery, quality and cost. You should also actively seek improvements in productivity by studying current working practices on a day to day basis, implementing improvements to the practices and benchmarking against best in class. In conjunction with the Maintenance Engineer, you will also allow planned and unplanned maintenance of Workshop equipment, in order to avoid disruption to production.

A Production Engineer must have a sound practical knowledge of all aspects of Workshops engineering and be conversant with relevant safety legislation associated with the job. You must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and have working knowledge of materials selection and use. You should be a time-served Craftsperson with experience in a supervisory role and have qualifications to HNC or Degree level. Must be computer literate.
