First class career opportunity for a Product Support Engineer to join a leading designer and supplier of pyrotechnic products for defence and commercial applications, utilizing energetic materials technology.
As Product Support Engineer you will be the departments technical representative for problem resolution with all MoDs Pyrotechnic Stores.
The successful candidate will be HND qualified in Engineering or related discipline. Experience of Product Design/Development in accordance with established processes; problem solving techniques for example Root Cause Analysis; design of experiments cause/effect diagrams etc and experience /knowledge of explosives/dangerous goods are necessary.
Your responsibilities will include maintaining a good working relationship with the MoD customer; liaising with the MoD customer representative regarding all in-service product concerns and maintaining a problem priority list. You will conduct product problem investigations (using appropriate tools, e.g. Root Cause Analysis) and propose remedial actions, as well as lead the product improvement programmes for existing stores in accordance with established development and change control processes.

Furthermore, as Product Support Engineer you will design and develop new and existing pyrotechnic products to meet customer requirements including value engineering. You will also identify new concepts using newer technologies and conduct the necessary research to underpin new designs in line with agreed company strategy. You will act as the Design Authority for all CDU products and in this capacity, maintain all necessary technical drawings and documents. You will also assist Sales and Marketing (S&M) in preparation of Tender Responses and provide other technical support as appropriate and provide technical support to both Manufacturing and Quality and Business Improvement (Q&BI) in mechanical and chemical disciplines.
You will also assist in the design, development and qualification of pyrotechnic products under the guidance of the E&T Manager or other senior development staff, as well as provide technical support to other business areas. You will carry out all duties in line with the departments security procedures and undertake other duties within the department that are requested by your line manager to aid the performance of the department. These duties will not be of a greater or more complex nature and level of responsibility than those of the post holder, except with appropriate mutual agreement and necessary training. You will carry out the duties above in a manner that complies with the Health and Safety at Work Legislation that is to work safely and with due regard to health, safety and welfare of both themselves and of other employees in the company.
Successful candidates will need problem solving techniques e.g. Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Design of Experiments (DoE), Cause/Effect diagrams etc. A minimum of HND in an Engineering or related discipline is required. You will also need Product Design/Development experience in accordance with established processes and problem Solving skills using established tools/methods.
An excellent communicator, you will also be comfortable taking the lead and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. You will also be of a personable nature to develop relationships with customers representatives
Other desirable skills/knowledge include medium/high volume production processes; explosives / Pyrotechnic Products; quality management qualification; Project/task management; analytical skills using bespoke or OTS software packages. Ideally you will have worked successfully as an interface with a customer representative. Experience of process control and improvement; product Design Change Control; use of a 3D CAD system would also be advantageous for this role.
