My client is a leading provider of enterprise class data storage subsystems and network technology. They currently have a requirement for a Product Design Engineer.
Overview:
Building on over 20 years of research and development experience in disk drive development, storage systems and high-speed communication protocols, we design and manufacture enabling technology that provides our OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and disk drive manufacturer customers with data storage products to support high-performance storage and data communication networks.
Knowledge of or interest in the consumer product market place would be an advantage for this position.
You should have an understanding of:
-complex plastic injection moulding,
-sheet metal and pressure die-castings, preferably within a
-high-volume electro-mechanical manufacturing environment.
-audio-visual
-consumer products etc that are designed for high volume manufacture
You will also be involved in producing graphic design, graphical layouts and product presentations so candidates with experience of hand-sketching, concept creation and product realisation would be preferred.
Working directly with technical architects, account managers and customers you will work to produce custom variants of standard product or brand new designs, ensuring that the company product design remains best-in-class.
Key requirements:
Working as part of an innovative global mechanical design team delivering best in class storage enclosures you will have:
-Experience in a Product Design role. Fresh Graduates will also be considered and relative experience taken into account.
-Product Design based Degree.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-A positive and enthusiastic personality with a commitment to continuous improvement, high quality output and a flexible work-ethic.
-Confidence to present ideas both internally and to external design teams in Tier 1 customers.
-Proven approach to innovative design solutions from concept to production.
-A willingness to travel and make site visits when necessary to approve tooling drawings and first-off samples, working closely with company Procurement personnel.
-Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD modelling platform. Experience with Autodesk Inventor R2008 and Autodesk AutoCAD R2008 would be an advantage, although training would be provided.
-Good experience of Desktop Publishing software such as CorelDraw and Photoshop. Adobe Illustrator would be a suitable alternative.
-Experience of 3D Studio Max would be an advantage.
-Proficiency in MS Office applications and Internet searches.
