We are seeking a Process Safety Engineer who will develop and maintain real-time Process Control computer systems to support 24/7 operations across the three main Long Products sites as well as providing IT-based systems and solutions using a variety of technologies and techniques to meet the demands of customers across a range of diverse activities, in line with the strategic goals of the divisional and business units.

As Process Safety Engineer you will consistently satisfy customer requirements delivering systems within budget and timescale in accordance with service level agreements currently in place, supporting the operational and strategic projects across the divisional business and actively promote the capabilities of the department and engineering business through key customer relationships. Attention to detail and conformance to Quality Standards are also vital as the department is externally audited to maintain TickIT certification

Reporting to the Senior Process Control Engineer, Process Systems Engineer will join a team of professional and highly effective engineers and will be part of a development team which is currently involved in several projects and improvement activities to deliver benefits through existing systems or implementation of new installations across the division.

This role involves a variety of activities on a daily basis and more often than not, no two days are the same. The analytical and problem solving challenges appear in a number of guises

The analytical and problem solving challenges appear in a number of guises that can involve physical, operational and technical issues, which can often span a number of disciplines and departments and may also involve wider sub-business, business or divisional issues.

Ideally degree qualified, the Process Safety Engineer should have a technical profile spanning numerous technologies, Windows-based technologies, Open systems (i.e. Linux and MySQL) Database design and administration, VMS based systems. Software development using a number of different languages, Web-based technology and Real-time data acquisition. Although it is not essential that you have comprehensive experience of all of these areas, priority will be given to applicants with a broad range of knowledge to reduce the initial learning curve.

It is likely that you will be qualified in a Computer software/Technical related discipline, with good ironmaking process knowledge. The three key skills for the Process Safety Engineer are strong analytical and problem solving skills, first class communication skills and good team work.

Due the varying technologies in use, it is anticipated that some form of training will be essential, and the company offer excellent support for career development within the business as well as professional development through IEE and the BCS. Current departmental structure offers the potential for future promotion to the position of Senior Process Control Engineer.
