An opportunity has arisen for a Principle Engineer to join a world leading provider of technology, product innovation, engineering solutions and strategic consulting to the worlds automotive industries.
The Mechanical Development Department is responsible for functional/product development and the validation testing of engines and engine-related systems and components. The department is also responsible for fault-finding and problem resolution activities.
Joining this Department as Principle Engineer, you will cooperate closely with OEM, suppliers and test and design and analysis areas to define appropriate testing plans, analyse results and make recommendations for design changes on either new powertrain designs or fault diagnostics projects. You will undertake a wide range of projects for customers in the automotive, generation and heavy duty engine markets. Projects may involve working alone or part of a cross-functional and possibly international team and occasional travel to overseas sites will be required.
This exciting role involves carrying out product engineering processes, in particular system and component specifications, FMEAs, DVPs (Design Validation Plans), structured problem solving (i.e. 8D, DAMAIC process etc) and test procedures. You will also be required to prepare and execute component, system, engine and vehicle testing, either on or off site, in consultation with the customer.
Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline, you will have relevant experience in the automotive engineering industry and in the field of mechanical analysis. Initiative and interpersonal skills are essential, as are strong written communication, PC and presentation skills. You will have experience of the technical task management of projects and supplier management.

You will also be required to prepare and execute component, system, engine and vehicle testing, either on or off site, in consultation with the customer. This task will cover the areas of specialist instrumentation, prototype component manufacture, component and system functional and durability test rigs, functionality and durability engine dynamometer tests, functionality and durability vehicle tests.
You will also be responsible for investigations and technical reporting to respond to customer powertrain enquiries on current and advanced technology on component or engine systems. You will prepare work proposals and project planning activities, supervise engineers or engineering teams and be a main contact person for responding to technical enquiries.
Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline, you will have relevant experience in the automotive engineering industry and in the field of mechanical analysis. Initiative and interpersonal skills are essential, as are strong written communication, PC and presentation skills. You will have experience of the technical task management of projects and supplier management. You have a broad engineering knowledge of powertrain systems, an understanding of engine component and system design gasoline and Diesel and experience of fault finding techniques used in the Automotive industry.
You will also have good project management skills and an understanding of CAE and CFD techniques
