POWER CONVERSION SYSTEMS

Opportunities are available for Power Electronics Engineers whose roles will be to specify, design and document power electronics hardware and software developments. You will be working within a team of multi-skilled engineers to deliver development projects using computer simulation, specification, design and calculation tools.
You will also be responsible for estimating and planning of work to ensure budgets and timescales are met, liaising with other units, customers, suppliers and sub-contractors and providing technical advice and assistance to the application engineering and sales teams.
Power Electronics Engineers will be involved in design of low or medium voltage power electronic systems, including electrical design, selection of components, cubicle layout, electro-mechanical packaging, and cooling systems.
To succeed in this role, you must have experience of the electronic design of a power converter for any application - AC-DC and/or DC-AC and a good understanding of power semiconductor devices technology. Understanding of IGBT or thyristor based drives and good understanding of electric machine including A induction motor and PM motor would be desirable, as would exposure to high power systems design i.e. switching HV power using semiconductor components and knowledge of control systems, in particular drives..
Ideally you will also have experience of using simulation tools, such as Matlab Simulink, Pspice and experience of real time control systems. The Power Electronics Engineer will be educated to degree level in electrical and electronic engineering and will have sound experience in an engineering, design, testing, commissioning or research environment. In addition experience of drive train and/or power system design, control systems, Drive, PLC, or simulation programming is advantageous.

You must be enthusiastic and flexible, a good team player, and possess excellent communication skills. In addition, a clean driving licence and the willingness to travel within the UK and overseas for short-term working are essential.
