An opportunity to work in ship repair and refit environment, based on the south coast.
You will be involved in the repair and refit of Royal Naval vessels.
The majority of the work will be completed on-board the ship either moored alongside or in dry dock with the remaining work being performed in various workshops throughout the dockyard.
You must have a good understanding of plate work and be able to demonstrate the various techniques used in ship repair industry.
Ideally suitable candidates should have an understanding of health and safety regulations involving hotwork and confined spaces.
You will be required to:-
Understand and follow written and/or oral instructions
Understand and follow health & safety arrangements
Interpret and, Work from 2 dimensional drawings, and x, y, z, co-ordinate hot-work drawings
Have ALL the basic hand skills, i.e.; Burning & chamfering of thick and thin plate. Tack welding and short run fillet welding.
Undertake Accurate Marking off, and measurement using Tapes straight edges, Levels, squares, string/chalk lines, and plumb bobs
Have the ability to use a Dumpy level and laser plane level
Use grinders and changing discs
Have experience in use of strong-backs and fairing aids to prevent distortion.
Bend and form thick and thin plate
In addition to a holding a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent, you will be experienced in the construction and maintenance of Royal Naval vessels.
You will be required to produce your indentures/trades papers upon the first day of employment.
Rates for PAYE contractors are 11.59 (plus 1.18 holiday credit) for the first 37 hours worked, 15.45 (plus 1.57 holiday credit) for overtime Monday - Saturday and 19.32 (plus 1.96 holiday credit) for overtime on a Sunday.
For limited or umbrella company contractors rates are 14.40 for the first 37 hours worked, 19.21 for overtime overtime Monday- Saturday and 24.01 for overtime on a Sunday.
Overtime will paid once 37 hours have been worked - there will be an average of 50 hours per week available.
