Description

The primary objective of the role is to lead the Navigation systems engineering activities of a functional sub-group within the Galileo Full Operational Capability (FOC) Payload project team.

For both the IOV and FOC Payloads, the project role for the Payload Systems Team Leader will entail all aspects of the definition, design, specification and validation of the Galileo Navigation Payload. This will be achieved through analysis of Payload-level requirements, Payload architecture trade-offs,
Payload performance analysis and derivation of subsystem and unit requirements. Technical management and flow-down of requirements changes will be a significant component of the work. The position will also demand support to generation and implementation of Payload validation and test plans, and generation of the Payload test requirements for all programme phases up to and including in-orbit test. It will comprise systems support to AIT during integration and test in order to resolve technical issues and ensure satisfactory completion of the validation programme. This will require an in-depth knowledge of Navigation Payload designs, products and processes. An integral part of the project responsibilities will be the preparation of design review documentation and presentation of this material to internal and external customers. This position will involve management responsibilities at work package level, with ownership of budgets of at least £100K, with the expectation to provide technical leadership of a systems team of up to 5 staff.

For the FOC proposal activities, the focus will be on the preparation of a technical response to a formal Request For Proposal (RFP) as part of an FOC Payload bid team. The proposal activities will require the definition and justification of a Payload technical baseline, the scoping and planning of system engineering activities, including preparation of associated work packages, costs and schedules. Specific documented inputs will be required to the technical and management proposals, together with technical support to contract negotiations.

The Payload Systems Team Leader will be required to technically and managerially represent the company with both customers and suppliers.

This position also foresees some participation in non-navigation Payload projects/proposals/studies, design and process improvement initiatives at departmental and corporate level, training and mentoring of other engineering staff.

Relevant Engineering degree and proven applicable experience.

Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
