Key Responsibilities/Duties
- Day to day support of the production and pre-production database environments
- Planning and implementing application upgrades
- Provide out of hours / weekend DBA support as and when required
- Performing database upgrades and database software installations
- Assisting other DBAs in the team to build and scale databases for growth, security, and resilience
- Assisting the development and testing teams in the rollout of scheduled releases
Mandatory skills and experience
- Extensive production Oracle DBA experience (ideally to include 10g)
- Experience of SQL, PL/SQL and shell scripting
- Practical use and implementation of database monitoring tools
- Backup & recovery technologies (RMAN, Dataguard, Veritas)
Desirable skills and experience
- Oracle certification ie OCP or OCA
- Hands on support of a high volume, highly transactional, on line, 24/7 * 365 systems in a financial, telecoms, Internet based trading or online gaming environment
- Thorough and in depth technical knowledge of Oracle backup and recovery processes
- Experience of cluster technologies
- OEM
- Experience in generating ad hoc and bespoke reports for end users
- Implementation and maintenance of failover and Disaster Recovery procedures
- Database performance analysis and tuning Statspack.
