Description

The principal responsibility of the position is to specify, develop and qualify motor and drive solutions.

During a typical pump development the candidate will have responsibility for:
• Motor and drive technology choice and specification, derived through functional analysis
• Working with strategic suppliers and the company commodity management to design motors and drives to meet the specifications, cost targets and project timescales.
• Motor and drive development and validation using dynamometer and in-pump testing
As an expert in motor and drive technology the successful candidate will also be expected to provide specialist technical advice and guidance to the operations, field service and technical support functions and contribute to defining the companies strategy in this key area.
Key Skills
Candidate must demonstrate thorough understanding of:
• Motor technologies, in particular, induction and permanent magnet machines, their fundamental operating principles and limitations
• Inverter technology and motor control principles
• Product Development in a multi-disciplined team
Knowledge of the following would be an advantage:
• Motor manufacturing technology and processes
• Electronics and embedded software
• High precision dynamometry and loss segregation
• Use of FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) to identify and control technical risk in product development
Qualifications
Minimum 2:1 degree (BSc or BEng) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Experience
5+ years working in motors and/or drives development
