Our client, part of one of the largest food companies in the UK have a new vacancy for a microscopy scientist.
Purpose
Performs and reports microscopical testing in the areas of investigative microscopy and foreign body identification and produces visual standards to support the maintenance and growth of the businesses.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform, interpret and report microscopical analyses in the area of investigative food and packaging microscopy and to work closely with innovation and improvement project teams contributing to the understanding of the roles of food ingredient and equipment functionalities in the manufacturing process.
To perform and report the identifications of foreign bodies, meeting the requirements of the laboratory's UKAS accreditation ISO 17025 standard.
To produce photographic product standards to meet customer requests.
To prioritise and organise the completion of work to meet customer's deadlines.
To deal with day to day customer requirements for information and technical advice.
To present technical information clearly and concisely.
To be involved in microscopy method development and validation.
To attend educational and training programmes and use these to advance personal and sectional knowledge and skills.
To ensure that all operations comply with health and safety regulations, especially COSHH.
To assist in the maintenance of the laboratories in a safe, tide and clean manner.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Knowledge and practical experience of microscopy
Degree in scientific discipline or equivalent
Knowledge of at least 1 of the following: optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
Good communication skills - both written and oral
Problem solving skills/Logical thinking
Tenacity and attention to detail
Able to deliver in multiple concurrent project areas
Able to work safely and accurately within a UKAS laboratory environment
Computer literate
Team Worker
Self starter
PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience of both food microscopy and foreign body identification
Knowledge of food structure/composition and processing
Experience of conducting projects
Experience of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
