The Mechanical Engineer will assist technicians during the mechanical assembly and measurement of the insertion devices using state of the art measuring and aligning equipment such as Faro Gage, Hamar Scanning Laser System, and Laser Interferometer etc. Assist with the commissioning, installation and maintenance of the insertion devices and writing assembly and set-up procedures of insertion devices. Maintain and manage technical files containing all relevant technical and QA documentation. Design of assembly tools, jigs and fixtures and other auxiliary components. Write procurement specifications for bought-in components and assemblies. Source and procure components and interact with and support suppliers. Collaborate with other technical groups such as Vacuum, Engineering, Survey and Alignment, Installation and Facility Management, Power Supplies and Controls during the assembly, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of the insertion devices.
The Mechanical Engineer should have gained a minimum of HNC qualification or Degree in a Mechanical discipline. Checking and approving mechanical design drawings, using AutoCAD or other Drawing package e.g. Pro-E. Precision mechanical assembly. Familiar with precision measuring equipment (Faro, Hamar etc). Experience in carrying out risk assessments and producing method statements. • Familiar with UHV practice and cryogenics.
