Mechanical Design Engineer

Exciting *New* Position
World leader in the design and manufacture of electric motors, and control systems for electric vehicles. Through significant investment and innovation the company has developed an innovative motor/drive package offering enhanced efficiency and major performance benefits. The company is now applying this new technology into strategic markets, namely electric/hybrid vehicles. The company has a multi-disciplined engineering team.
Job Description
General Responsibilities:
Design of new product schemes & layouts in conjunction with customers, suppliers and internal departments
Creation of design documentation to enable production including component drawings, assembly documentation & BOMs
General administration tasks including documentation control and supplier queries
Processing modifications to existing designs using engineering change note system
Assisting in reviewing design system/methods in order to constantly improve, including Solidworks, AutoCAD and all design procedures.
Departmental reporting as required
Assisting in setting up and controlling value engineering methods for cost reduction programmes
Supporting sales with design, technical and application support including raising and maintaining appropriate files
Supporting production with design and technical support
Producing Engineering reports
Completing timesheets
The successful candidate will be degree qualified, or equivalent (minimum HNC qualified) with considerable relevant experience in the automotive industry. Understanding of limits and fits required
Experience of designing rotating mechanical equipment preferred (ideally electric motors)
Experience in Solidworks 3D-modelling software is essential
Familiarity with COSMOS preferred
Capable of working both alone and as part of a small multi-disciplined team
Enthusiastic with the ability to learn quickly
Flexible and able to prioritise tasks
Effective time-management skills
