Marine Project Service Engineer required for a leading marine design and engineering company involved in the offshore, defence and marine industry. Candidates will ideally have a seagoing or Royal Navy background.
Marine Project Service Engineer required for a leading marine design and engineering company involved in the offshore, defence and marine industry. Candidates will ideally have a seagoing or Royal Navy background.
The successful candidate will work as part of a multi disciplined team on an extensive range of Offshore, Merchant and Military Vessels together with numerous offshore installations.
Based in Portsmouth some travel may be required which may include temporary short term secondment between offices, including London, Tyneside, Bristol and Aberdeen.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide support to Project Managers with respect to the following:
> Site supervision at either a sub-contractors facility or client worksite,
> Superintend the manufacture & testing of equipment at a sub-contractors works ensuring conformance to specification and provision of valid certification ,
> Attend a clients site to undertake surveys & assessments and report to management,
> Assist project staff with the preparation of bids, development of specifications and delivery of projects,
> Assist with the compilation of technical manuals,
> Undertake surveys and assessments at client sites and report results back to management,
> Site manage the commissioning equipment following installation,
> Training of client's operators & maintainers,
> Assist clients with technical queries & spares support information .
Experience (Essential):
Whilst the Project Engineer will work within an existing team of similarly experienced professionals, the nature and location of current projects requires excellent team working and communication skills. It is equally important that the successful applicants are self motivated and able to work independently.
> Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings, which will include structural, hydraulic and electrical systems,
> Ability to diagnose defects and effect remedial actions,
> Ability to carry out design functions sufficient to instruct CAD draftsmen to produce working drawings of marine electrical systems and arrangements,
> Ability to prepare technical specifications, tender assessments and make appropriate recommendations,
> Preparation of reports and budgets for management and when necessary report directly to the client,
> An awareness / knowledge of ship structures,
> Good working knowledge of marine systems, including marine control and automation systems as an operator and maintainer,
> Operating and maintenance experience of mechanical and electro / hydraulic systems,
> Line management experience - able to lead and supervise a wide range of sub-contractors and suppliers as well as managing small teams of engineers and draughtsmen,
> Experience in training of clients' operators and maintainers,
> Understanding of application of relevant legislation and standards,
> Experience of working in an ISO 9001:2000 environment.
Experience (Desirable):
- Design / manufacture / decommissioning / maintenance of marine equipment.
Knowledge \ Qualifications:
This opportunity is expected to suit an applicant with the following backgrounds:
> Class One Marine Engineer with seagoing experience as Chief Engineer, an applicant with extensive experience as a 2nd Engineer or similar engineering department head will be considered,
> Or Royal Navy background,
> Ex Minor War vessels
> Ex Marine Engineering Artificer, ADLEE advantageous
> Experience with mechanical & electro / hydraulic systems as an operator and maintainer. Additional awareness / knowledge of ship structures an advantage.
Basic IT literacy
> MS Office applications (Word, Excel & Outlook)
> AutoCAD and MS Project advantageous but not essential
