To provide Marine expertise and ensure all vessels & crew meet their safety and operational requirements. The vacancy will be based in Greenock, where the successful candidate will be responsible also for Grangemouth and Belfast.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

> To maximise the operational efficiency and effectiveness of marine operations and marine equipment in compliance with the operating manual, with a particular emphasis on health & safety issues and lifesaving equipment. This will require close co-operation with the Engineering Superintendent.

> To manage the marine operations ensuring that the obligations for availability of expertise, equipment and personnel are met at all times.

> To take an active role in out of hours operational tug controlling as part of a rota system.

> To provide marine expertise input to the development of new business and to oversee the organisation of coastal towage operations.

> To co-ordinate training and development support and provide regulatory expertise ensuring that marine (deck and engine) personnel is met and national requirements with respect to certification and training.

> To provide and undertake a system of training and development in compliance with best practice, including the use of marine crew appraisal systems.

> Work with the Engineering Superintendent to ensure safe and effective transfer of vessels between ports and associated familiarisation of personnel to vessels.

> To have a broad understanding of the port's commercial situation and contracts, and assist and deputise for the Port Manager in commercial activities where required. Assist the Port Manager in the development of the business, actively marketing the company craft in these markets on a national basis. Actively develop and maintain customer contacts within business markets. Assist/develop projects and research of these markets.

> Support the Port Manager in collective bargaining negotiations with Trade Union representatives in the respective port.

> To undertake other duties as required in line with home port requirements


QUALIFICATIONS:

> Professional deck department qualifications to a minimum of STCW II/3

> Seagoing experience including command positions

> Experience with small craft desirable

> Some shore commercial / managerial experience desirable
