Description

Job Purpose:
Provides technical leadership in the technical area of expertise such as: fabrication, welding and facility planning; as part of the Manufacturing Engineering Department (MED). Leads the development and improvement of highly complex manufacturing processes. Leads small projects to support the needs of the business. Identifies and implements latest manufacturing technology trends to meet the core competencies of the Newcastle site. This position will report directly to an MED team leader within the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Leads smaller projects within MED or prototype programs with little support from MED team leader. This includes developing project metrics and establishing budgets for the effort; and providing status on a regular basis. Includes managing to maintain budget requirements.
Recommends and incorporates continuous improvement in the area of expertise to improve efficiencies throughout production
Assists with the development of strategic vision within operations and MED.
Develops manufacturing requirements documents during the design concept phase to meet core capabilities within the business
Provides design for manufacturing input during the initial design through production. This includes the development of PFMEA assessments to identify key program risks.
Develop manufacturing process documentation and standards for fabrication
Conduct safety and environmental risk assessments and develop specifications for equipment to improve safety in fabrication area
Develops cost benefit analysis to support the justification of new technologies and/or equipment in the area of individual expertise. This includes the development of CAPEX request and leading the project from design through installation.
Identify and implement technology trends (IT) to enhance the productivity of the organization in the specialty area
Mentor and train others within the department as required
Involvement with Manufacturing professional societies that promote latest manufacturing technology trends

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated technical expert in the area of fabrication or welding through relevant work experience.
Development of quality control plans and inspection documentation
Ability to recommend NDT inspection requirements for fabrication and welding
Understanding and application of Six Sigma tools
Excellent problem solving for developing cause and long term corrective actions in fabrication areas
Achieved minimum of HNC, preferably Degree in engineering or related field
Ability to work in a 3-D model environment to provide design for manufacturing input during the initial design phase of a project in the technical area of expertise
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and balance work load to support these programs.
Key individual traits: self starter that can work independently; creativity to implement new ideas or processes in the technical area of expertise; motivated to meet the challenges and financial targets to include stretch objectives.
