Description
Job purpose:
Provides Manufacturing Engineering Department (MED) leadership in the technical area of expertise such as: machining, tooling design, fabrication, welding, facility, quality controls, or assembly integration and test .
Leads the development and improvement of highly complex manufacturing processes, including identification and documentation of control plans to insure high quality product.
Leads projects within MED as part of the transformation process to support the needs of the business. Identifies and implements latest manufacturing technology trends to meet the core competencies of the Newcastle site.
This position will report directly to an MED team leader within the department.
Key responsibility areas:
Leads projects within MED or prototype programs.
This includes developing project metrics and establishing budgets for the effort; and providing status on a regular basis.
Includes managing to maintain budget requirements. Includes establishing project baselines and reporting earned value metrics on the project.
Recommends and incorporates continuous improvement in the area of expertise to improve efficiencies throughout production
Assists with the development of strategic vision within operations and MED.
Develops manufacturing requirements documents during the design concept phase to meet core capabilities within the business
Provides design for manufacturing input during the initial design through production.
This includes the development of PFMEA assessments to identify key program risks and the establishment of control plans for the process.
Develops cost benefit analysis to support the justification of new technologies and/or equipment in the area of individual expertise.
This includes the development of CAPEX request and leading the project from design through installation.
Provide technical support for the manufacturing group in areas of manufacturing, facilities, quality and test for all
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated technical expert in the area of machining, jig and fixture, fabrication, welding, facility planning, quality or assembly integration and test through relevant work experience.
Achieved minimum of HNC, preferably Degree in engineering or related field
Ability to work independently to develop project scope, timescales, metrics; and report on a regular basis to MED and operations management
Experience managing manufacturing improvement projects to include, but limited to; new machine installations, facility trade studies, manufacturing layouts definition and material flow.
Experience managing cross functional teams.
Ability to develop capacity and resource requirements for the project and manufacturing areas.
Ability to work in a 3-D model environment to provide design for manufacturing input during the initial design phase of a project in the technical area of expertise
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and balance work load to support these programs.
