A Lead Digital Electronic Design Engineer is currently required for our large defence client based in Basingstoke for an initial 6 month contract. Pri
ary Purpose of the Role The main purpose of the role will be to manage and/or lead teams of engineers engaged in the design, development and test of hardware and/or software at unit, equipment and system level. The key tasks will include- Act as Project Leader for one or more developments, with responsibility for ensuring that they meet the agreed targets for cost, timescale and specification Supervise staff in the preparation and maintenance of design studies, bids, technical proposals, design cost and works cost estimates, development programmes, loading requirements and progress reporting Act as Technical Authority for performance specifications, hardware and/or software specifications, test specifications and technical reports Carry out appraisals of individual engineers, setting and reviewing objectives and maintaining Development Action Plans Carry out interviewing and selection of prospective staff members Develop and present innovative ideas to improve and extend the range of the Company's products and services Ensure the most cost-effective solutions are provided to problems in new designs, and assist PDS on existing designs Technical and Professional Skills and Experience This is a demanding position requiring the following attributes: Practical experience of very complex, high speed digital electronics including DSP processors, microprocessors, FPGAs, ADC and DACs Current experience of modern digital techniques and devices Reasonable experience of analogue electronics design Understanding of the complete engineering R and D lifecycle processes Must be a practical, focussed problem solver. Good communicator, remaining effective under pressure. Self-starter able to work alone or as part of a team Use of Cadence schematic capture, PCB layout and FPGA tools preferred Use of PC based office tools (MS Office, Project, Vision) Experience of mobile radio technology Security clearance will need to be obtained. Current SC security clearance would be advantageous.
