Our leading UK client is looking for an experienced Laboratory Manager to join their Oil, Gas and Chemicals team.
Main Purpose of Role
Development of an over-arching strategy for all OGC UK laboratories, covering the strands of analytical technology, workforce planning and business development.
Joint responsibility for the operational implementation of these strategies in co-operation with Laboratory Managers and the Business Development Manager.
Lead a laboratory development team covering national issues to provide a support service to the Laboratory Managers.
Key Accountabilities
Take overall responsibility for the delivery of UK Oil, Gas & Chemicals Laboratories revenue and profitability (local contribution) targets, through effective business planning, efficient and appropriate use of resources, and by ensuring the operational capacity and capability to deliver valued services to customers.
Support the Business Manager in ensuring appropriate business growth and efficiency objectives are realised, taking responsibility for ad-hoc projects as required.
Develop and maintain a lean and accountable team structure that encourages employees to take ownership of operational issues/opportunities at appropriate levels.
Maintain an awareness of industry market trends/developments to ensure that new business avenues are explored and appropriate growth opportunities maximised.
Ensure effective two-way communication with team members to achieve appropriate levels of understanding of, and commitment to, appropriate business objectives.

Experience
Considerable experience in applied chemistry in the field of analytical measurement.
Experience team leadership/people management
Skills
Knowledge of analytical science and inspection services within the OGC industry.
Able to identify and capitalise on business development/efficiency opportunities to ensure sustainable revenues at acceptable margins.
Interpersonal skills able to develop positive working relationships with people at all levels, both with your colleagues and external clients/partners.
Communication skills both verbal and written.
Desirable
Knowledge of IT systems, particularly MS Office applications & CCLASS LIMS.
Qualifications
Essential
First degree or equivalent - e.g. BSc(Hons), BSc (Hons), etc. (if external appointment)
Relevant management qualification/training e.g. ILM, NEBBS, etc.
Full driving licence
Desirable
Higher degree in analytical chemistry e.s. MSc/PhD
Relevant qualification/membership of industry body.
