IR Sensor Design Engineer
Required by this leading Defence organisation. This role is to take concepts and new ideas proposed by customers and by others from first prototype to fully engineered qualified products in the field of Infra-Red Detectors. After introduction into manufacture the job holder will continue to support yield improvement and problem solving while engaged in further development projects.
The role will be based in Hampshire and is commutable from Fareham, Winchester, Romsey and Lyndhurst.
Key responsibility areas:
Provide technical leadership in several of the following areas:
Semiconductor (CMT) device design and process technology (including modelling and analysis), Cryogenic system design and development, Optical system design for infra-red imaging, Integration of photodiode arrays with integrated circuits, Electro-optic performance and test. Liaison with customers on all areas of design. Take ownership of product design from concept to manufacture.
In addition to the technical skills outlined above, demonstration of technical leadership, problem solving, project planning, and technical writing skills are required. Understanding of several of the following would be an advantage: silicon IC processes and design procedures, commercial experience of semiconductor manufacturing, knowledge of infra-red detectors and their applications, knowledge of qualification procedures for Military applications.
A high degree of numeracy is required, together with a track record of technical leadership in product development, good communication skills, and an ability to negotiate, build concensus and influence effectively. A good Degree in Physics or Engineering (2:1 or 1st class Hons) is required and an MSc or PhD qualification would be valuable. Product Development is ESSENTIAL.
