My client is a global medical technology company with leadership positions in advanced wound care and Therapeutic Support Systems. They currently have a requirement for a Human Systems/ Ergonomics Engineer.

Position Summary

-Responsible for ensuring that design and development of new products follows human-centred approach.
-Identifying specific human factors tasks and activities that will be addressed at each stage of product development, and ensuring that these activities are carried out satisfactorily.
-Planning and executing simulated-use evaluation of existing, prototype and pre-production medical devices for the purpose of assessing usability.


Major Responsibilities
-Working in a cross-functional team to understand and specify the context of use of medical devices.
-Perform usability risk assessments.
-Consult and advise design teams and formulate design inputs and user requirements.
-Perform task analysis on existing and prototype medical devices.
-Produce usability test plans that will be conducted in the in-house simulated use room.
-Supervise and evaluate usability testing.
-Facilitate team meetings and design reviews within cross-functional project teams.

Position Qualifications
Experience:

The candidate will have:

-A detailed understanding of Human Factors and ergonomics.
-Knowledge of the tools and techniques required to apply human centred design to products in development.
-Knowledge of the design and implementation of mechanical and software systems into human systems.
-Previous practical experience applying their expertise to product and process development.

Education:
-Minimum degree level in Ergonomics or Human Factors and with membership of the Ergonomics Society

Personal Characteristics:
-Methodical approach.
-Good report writing skills required.
-Good time management and multi-tasking abilities required.
-Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
-Able to work independently requiring minimal levels of supervision.
