Key Accountabilities
Our client is part of a group of specialist companies with world wide operations centred in Europe and The USA. They are respected as a world leader in in the design and manufacture of high specification interconnection and fluid transfer systems for a wide range of markets and applications including aerospace, defence and specialised industrial applications in hazardous and safety critical environments.
The Head of Engineering will be accountable for the following areas.
Ensuring the successful and timely delivery of key product development projects in line with the business unit strategies.
Leading the engineering function to ensure that it is working to the highest standards, systems and processes and ultimately ensuring that their products are fully compliant with all of our legal and market requirements.
Raising raise the level of innovation within the engineering team.
To work closely with the Business Unit Managers and Directors to ensure that the engineering objectives are well defined. These will form the basis of the priorities of the engineering function, and need to be communicated to the Engineering Team.
To ensure that the Engineering function is properly resourced and structured to fulfil the changing needs of the business.
To work closely with the other functional Managers to ensure that the Engineering function plays a full and active role in business improvement initiatives, such as the profit improvement of existing products or the development of the Company's supply chain.
To lead and manage the Product Development Team to ensure that their projects are successfully completed, on time and within budget.
To manage the Applications Engineering Team and Estimator to ensure that they are giving excellent support to the UK Sales Team.
To oversee and guide the work of the Design Manager and product sustaining activities of the Function.
To give direction, support and guidance to the members of the Engineering Team, to ensure that they are performing effectively and that their efforts are well focused.
To be actively involved in the training needs identification and training programmes of the engineering function.
To be an active member of the divisions management team.
Knowledge and Skills Required
It is likely that the appointed Engineering Manager will be educate4d to degree level in a engineering discipline and experience of working in a engineering management position with evidence of successfully leading and developing an engineering team or function and effective and proven project and man management skills. Knowledge & awareness of aerospace industry regulations and processes would be desirable
This position in other companies could be called Chief Engineer, Technical Manager, Product Development Manager, Mechanical Engineering Manager
