The Estimating Engineer will assume and discharge the responsibility for breaking down customer enquiries into Labour Hours, Material Values and Tooling Costs for the purpose of Quotations to Customers.
Key responsibilities
Responding to customer RFQs (Request For Quotation).
Estimating Labour Hours and material costs, including tooling required for manufacturing components to customer's requirements.
Components include general products (AGS), aircraft piece parts and sub-assemblies i.e. ribs, stringers, cleats, tailplanes, heat shields etc.
Estimating type and cost of tooling required for manufacturing components to customer's requirements.
Identifying key processes required for component manufacture, and highlighting areas of concern or lack of capability. Therefore confirming if the component is manufactured in house or by an external sub-contract company.
Negotiating prices with sub-contractors for manufacture of tools and components as and when necessary.
Submitting times and values for estimate build up to the Manager, on approved Estimate Sheets clearly showing all cost elements i.e. set and run times, Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ), Bill Of Materials (BOM).
Discussing alternative methods of manufacture with the customer, where necessary.
Investigating non-profit making contracts.
Promoting and maintaining a good working relationship with customers, sub-contractors and other departments.
Liaising with all other Departments as necessary i.e. Engineering, Purchasing (buyers).
Maintaining safe conditions of work, and observe all current Health and Safety legislation.
Performing other duties as may be deemed necessary to ensure the effective running of the Department and Company.
