Our client is a world leader in the design and manufacture of electrical and fibre optic connection components and solutions for harsh environments (aerospace, military, autosport etc.). Due to increasing demand they have the requirement for an Estimating Engineer to work in the Production Engineering departments. The main purpose of the role will be to provide an accurate and timely cost estimating service for new and existing customers.

Due to increasing demand they have the requirement for an Estimating Engineer to work in the Production Engineering departments. The main purpose of the role will be to provide an accurate and timely cost estimating service for new and existing customers. Candidates will have experience having worked in a Production Engineering environment, with experience of providing detailed cost estimates in a similar capacity.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

•To create detailed cost estimates for new and existing products, showing individual component costs and any non-recurring elements.
•To liaise with the Purchasing Department and outside suppliers to obtain quotations for new / existing components and assemblies.
•To liaise with the Materials Planning Department and allocated Project Manager to establish lead times for new products.
•To consider the capacity implications for key and bottleneck machinery and plant when creating estimates.
•To highlight technical risks when creating cost estimates for new products and assess those risks using various techniques as appropriate, i.e. FMEA.
•To maintain manufacturing documentation, initiate method improvement and cost saving projects
•To support Production/Sales/Engineering in the preparation of Process Specification and Routings.
•To ensure that the routed and actual costs of items are the same as or better than estimated costs.
•To ensure all tooling and gauging requirements are identified prior to Production.
•To investigate and prepare capital investment proposals through PEPs.
•To liaise with Engineering to ensure components are designed for manufacture.
•To keep abreast of technical developments and review manufacturing methods.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND BACKGROUND EXPERIENCE:

Must hold an ONC/HNC in Mechanical or Production Engineering or equivalent qualification and have working experience in production engineering or have relevant experience in a connector manufacturing environment.
