Equipment System Engineer required to be involved in the specification, design and development of both Man Worn and Vehicle based Radio Communications Systems (the system on the man/vehicle, and the higher level network of such systems. Will need to take on/rise to the challenges of designing small, ergonomically optimised, low power equipment that is rugged, lightweight, cost effective and easy to use. Required to produce detailed equipment specifications that flow high level requirements down to equipment design requirements, and leading the small team that develops the solution. Designing either new equipment or re-use of existing equipment elements into a new solution, the successful applicant will become the Design Authority for these developments and as such will take on some Post Design Support responsibilities (Latent Defects, Obsolescence, Design Enhancements etc). Other tasks will involve assisting in peer reviews, New Product Introduction support, system test and debugging.Developments both Private Venture and Contract funded, the role will involve creating Costed Development Estimates, and supporting bids in offering the most suitable technical solution. Interaction with the Chief Product Engineer, Engineering Managers and on occasion external customers.
Key Responsibility Areas
Techical Design Authority within the development Team for the associated product.Agreement of product Requirement Specifications with the Chief Product Engineer.Development and agreement of detailed requirements for the subelements/systems within the product.Design Reviews.Design Certification including agreeing test and acceptance criteria for the system.Technical Support to the product when it enters into service.
Skills & Experience
At least 2 years experience in a systems engineering/Design Authority position. An understanding of RF and Radio Design.
