As a Technician, you will report to a Team Leader and will work alongside more experienced staff to provide project and technical support for work relating to all aspects of multimodal traveller information and traffic control systems. This will include traffic signals design, real-time passenger information, electronic information displays and motorway communications systems. This is a growing area of the business with promising career prospects and opportunity for progression.
Within the overall sphere of providing assistance to senior staff in the feasibility, design and implementation of ITS projects for the Highways Agency and Local Authority schemes you will be responsible for drafting technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality - with minimum guidance, completing specifically assigned tasks to time and cost and offering new ideas to improve solutions and processes.
You will work independently delivering work and integrating with larger project teams and working and communicating on a diverse range of projects. You will also have responsibility for ensuring compliance with quality, safety and environmental procedures to the Business Management Systems, and that Health & Safety obligations are met.
As Technician you should hold a BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent) or higher, or be working towards such qualification in electrical/ electronic/ mechanical engineering or related subject. You should be working towards ECUK Engineering Technician registration and must hold a full UK driving licence.
You must have experience working in electrical design, installation or maintenance environment and should have some Computer Aided Design experience. A background working within a transport-related area, on Highways Agency or Local Authority schemes, urban traffic management and control systems or motorway communication and information systems would be desirable but is not essential.
