Our customer is a leading supplier of Emission Control Systems. They are supporting a global, diverse technology leader and the World's largest and most successful engine company. The Resident Design Engineer will be based on site at our clients premises in Peterborough, interacting with the Aftertreatment/Emissions team. This is a long term contract and there will be occasional travel to the head offices in Germany and in the US, including some initial training on our products.
You will be working closely with the Emission Systems team. This group has design responsibility for the integration of the emission control system components. This position leads the new product introduction through the use of systems centered on APQP and TS16949 procedures and activity within the company
The Role
You will be responsible for working with the Emissions Integration Applications Engineers, Engine Designers and Development/Test Engineers on the packaging and integration of the emissions system related components to the end application
Management of the component detailing and releasing for the build phases leading up to and including Production. Develop and maintain activity and action plans for design/development, and provide dates for drawing, tooling and production release and verification
Details of the role will include leading the system design of the aftertreatment components, participating in design reviews, FMEA meetings, working with suppliers and customers of the emissions systems, including supporting APQP and definition of the BOM. A key focus of the design engineer will be maximising commonality across all customer machine and engine platforms
Working as part of a team you will be expected to design component concepts, using analysis where appropriate to refine and optimise the design.
Direct and promote technical communications between our organization and our customer
Drive activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design problems and meeting technical targets
Requirements
Degree educated or demonstrated competency
Ideally, a minimum of 2 years experience in design
Must be Pro/ENGINEER proficient (Wildfire)
An Automotive background is preferred
Knowledge of powertrain and/or exhaust engineering is highly desirable
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and presentations
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in multi-disciplined, multi-cultural team environments consisting of designers, applications engineers, test engineers, purchasing, product support, and product safety representatives
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of engineering predictive and analytical tools is desired
Computer literate, able to perform spreadsheet calculations, graphics, programme management, and word processing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential
Must be a highly motivated and able to work without supervision
Ability to travel to suppliers, plants, and customers to support development requirements.
