An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Development Engineer to join the Base Engine Mechanical Department of a world leading provider of technology, product innovation, engineering solutions and strategic consulting to the worlds automotive industries.
The Mechanical Development Department is responsible for functional/product development and the validation testing of engines and engine-related systems and components. The department is also responsible for fault-finding and problem resolution activities.
Joining this department as Development Engineer, you will cooperate closely with OEM, suppliers and test and design and analysis areas to assist in defining testing plans, analysing results and recommending design changes on either new powertrain designs or fault diagnostics projects. You will be required to undertake a wide range of projects for customers in the automotive, generation and heavy duty engine markets. Projects may involve working alone or as part of a cross-functional and possibly international team. Occasional travel to overseas client sites could be required. .
This exciting role will involve supporting the product engineering processes in terms of system and component specifications, FMEAs, DVPs (Design Validation Plans), structured problem solving i.e. 8D, DAMAIC process etc and test procedures. You will also be responsible for supporting the preparation and execution of component, system, engine and vehicle testing, either on or off site, in consultation with the customer and with the assistance of a Senior Engineer.
Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline, you should ideally have a basic understanding of the field of mechanical analysis. Initiative and interpersonal skills are essential, as are strong written communication, PC and basic presentation skills.

This support role will cover the areas of specialist instrumentation, prototype component manufacture, component and system functional and durability test rigs, functionality and durability engine dynamometer tests and functionality and durability vehicle tests. You also will carry out technical reporting and assist with technical enquiries. With support and supervision from a Senior Engineer, you will also carry out mechanical development tasks and engine and component testing

You must also have basic technical task management skills and a basic understanding of powertrain systems, fault-finding techniques, engineering drawings and engine component and system design gasoline and Diesel. You will be able to carry out engineering tasks under your own initiative or part of a cross functional engineering team.
