We are seeking experienced Design/ Project Engineers to manage and control specified engineering projects to agreed technical, financial, quality requirements whilst ensuring compliance with Company and Statutory safety standards. Your key responsibilities will include installing, commissioning and optimising Capital Plant and Equipment within a working environment as well as providing specialist technical services to the Operating Departments to ensure continual improvements in the Construction, Maintenance and Operation of buildings, plant and equipment.
The role will provide you with the opportunity to contribute to the customers ongoing developments on a personal basis and interact directly with major suppliers into the steel industry from across Europe thereby remaining at the cutting edge of technology. You will be working as part of a multi disciplined team within a small project organisation who regularly face fresh challenges given the dynamics of the steel industry. It can also provide learning opportunities and for personal development as part of the larger organisation.
Your specific responsibilities will include directing and controlling multi-disciplined engineering resources, preparing allocated project specifications including detailed financial estimates and time schedules, negotiating and managing contracts including the selection of appropriate contractors, appraising assigned personnel to meet C&I, CNES and departmental objectives and assisting in the development of training requirements
To succeed as Design/ Project Engineer, you should be qualified to degree/HNC level or equivalent in an engineering discipline, ideally of Chartered status, and will possess engineering experience at Senior Design Engineer level or equivalent

Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability are essential for the role of Design/ Project Engineer, as is the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and direct and control multi discipline teams in the installation and commissioning of major plant and equipment.
You must have a good working knowledge of engineering standards and appropriate legislation, and should be able to demonstrate the ability to work with precision and thoroughness. A high degree of customer and quality awareness is also key. You should also be able to develop and implement cost effective schemes using innovative engineering and technological solutions to improve business profitability.
As Design/ Project Engineer, you will be joining a department which provides a service of Project Management ensuring adherence to all appropriate health & safety and environmental legislation. It predominantly delivers/oversees all CAPEX work for Engineering Steels and strategic planning needs of that business including negotiations on major contracts with suppliers.
The service provided embraces both mechanical and electrical engineering in addition to civil engineering, plant metallurgy, process control systems and a technical services support function. Additionally the department maintains and develops the central engineering standards policy documentation and procedures, inspection records and drawing services.
