Design Manager

Job Purpose

To undertake responsibility for coordination of design and technical functions across the Precast business. To ensure that all contracts meet the specific agreement set out in the tender specification and that cost allocations are met.

Major Tasks

1.Responsible for the overall running of the Design department in the civils , rail and structures sector.
2.Coordinate and facilitate the regular review of KPIs for the Design Department and improve where necessary.
3.Coordinate responses to customer requests/enquiries to possible design solutions around TPC products at concept stage.
4.Coordinate the development of designs at tender stage to a level sufficient for estimators to provide a firm price.
5.Coordinate detailing of designs for tender submissions.
6.Communicate tender design information to designers and detailers on successful contracts.
7.Undertake functional responsibility for managing the design team in line with the budgetary targets set on each individual fiscal year.
8.Undertake responsibility for Best Practice throughout the Design Team.

Job Activities

1.Design Issues - Contract Related
a.Communicate with the factory concerning design and technical issues.
b.Feedback information to relevant design team members
c.Chase information from cradle to grave, to ensure a minimum disruption to the factory.
d.Report discrepancies by means of Non Conformance reports to the relevant departments; if the fault is drawing related.

2.Design issues - Factory related
a.Check regularly that progress is being made on specific job requirements.
c.Collate information and issue to relevant parties, highlighting issues of concern.
d.Liaise with the design team regarding any queries that may arise.

3.Design and Drawings
a.To review in line with the SAP the requirements for Fixtures and Fittings.
b.Ensure compliance of manufacture details standardisation between Sub-contract draughtsmen.
c.A fixture & fittings link needs to be adopted for SAP input of master data to configure cast-in-fittings, quickly and efficiently. The AutoCAD details therefore need to be reviewed to help assist in this issue.

4.Conceptual Designs & Sales Representation

a.Assist sales staff in promoting of TPC products and systems in customer contacts including potential visits and presentations.
b.Coordinate the review of conceptual designs provided by clients and put forward practicable solutions based on TPC products. Innovate where appropriate.
c.Provide outline designs to estimators for budget costing purposes.

5.Tender Design & Detailing

a.Procure job winning designs with optimum layout and element details for tenders with sufficient detail for estimating to produce firm price quotations.
b.Ensure the design team produce general arrangement and critical connection details etc. for tender submissions.

6.Conversion of Tender Designs to Scheme Details

a.Communicate design philosophy and design parameters used at tender stage to designers responsible for contracts post-order.
b.Review the handover notes detailing design information used at tender stage (e.g. section sizes, rebar contents, fittings utilised, etc).
c.As required, carry out detailed design of schemes or assist others in technical department to do so post-order.
