Design Engineer - Cost Optimisation
We are supporting a global, diverse technology leader and the World's largest and most successful engine company. Our client leads the field in the design and manufacture of high-performance engines. Their continuous development programme, dedicated to furthering engine design allows them to offer one of the most advanced and comprehensive ranges of purpose-built diesel engines available today. Staying ahead in a rapidly changing world is vital and to achieve this they need ambitious, talented individuals who have the potential to create, challenge, and deliver global objectives.
The Cost Optimisation Team is tasked with delivering multi million dollar savings for the business through component and assembly design change and sourcing strategy. Working on current released products the objective is to find ways of generating piece part and assembly savings whilst further enhancing quality and reliability of the finished product. The delivery of this objective is intrinsically linked to the strategic goals for the business.
The Role:
Primary objective for this role is to take identified design related cost optimisation ideas or opportunities, research and confirm that the idea potential and cost saving is valid
Develop the idea via investigation and use of Pro-e design to optimise the part/assembly for cost, quality and manufacturability
Will include liaison with in house design engineers, manufacturing engineering, product management and purchase departments as well as suppliers and customers
When the idea is finalised it is presented for approval via the submission of a summarising business case that will include the steps required to deliver the project, all costs and a detailed timing plan
Requirements:
Educated to degree level or HNC with relevant experience
Trained and proficient CAD user with experience in Pro/Engineer (Wildfire 2)
Understanding of engineering and design principles and in-depth understanding of manufacturing processes
Trained and experienced in Pro-Mechanica component evaluation
Understanding of component NVH and validation testing requirements
Ability to develop/design components to meet product/project objectives
Capable of taking design concepts through all design stages to finished component
Good communication skills, able to communicate at all levels in the organisation
Self motivated able to manage multiple design tasks/project work concurrently
Have a flexible approach able to switch focus to new and challenging objectives at short notice
