• JOB: Design Engineer • LOCATION: Sheffield • SALARY: £29,000 - £33,000 + Benefits
Our client one of the world's leading engineering and plant building companies for the international metals industry currently have a position for a Design Engineer.
Role
To produce mechanical designs and associated information, in accordance with contract and other standards and in collaboration with other disciplines, fit for the manufacture and subsequent installation and commissioning of equipment and systems.
Tasks
• Responsible for the production of mechanical designs and associated information including technical enquiries and order documentation, calculations, drawings, schedules, Bills of Material and maintenance data.
• Provision of relevant information to the civils, fluids and electrical/automation disciplines within the Project Team, reporting to the Project Engineer.
• Monitoring and technical control of subcontracted designs/details as required, both in the home office and at the subcontractors office.
• To take part in and contribute to design and safety reviews for the mechanical engineering elements under their control.
• Responsible to ensure that the design and detailing of mechanical equipment is technically correct; carried out to the required standards; in accordance with the project specification programme and budget; in accordance with relevant Health and Safety Legislation.
• Co-ordination of the activities of a designated team of mechanical engineers as required.
• Reporting on the progress of mechanical engineering elements under their control in accordance with the project programme and budget.
• Provide engineering support as required to the installation and commissioning functions on the customer's site.
• Provide engineering support as required during manufacturing, assembly and testing of the equipment at the manufacturers.
• To ensure adherence with company policies and procedures.
• To advise the Mechanical Engineering Manager of any technical problems associated with design activities.
The following are desirable requirements and experience for the position;
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related engineering discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status and member of relevant institute.
• Commercially aware and deadline/target orientated.
• Extensive knowledge of relevant technology and product.
• Experience of supporting the manufacture, installation and commissioning of equipment.
• Awareness of all engineering disciplines.
• Computer Literate with:-
• A strong working knowledge of the Company CAD Systems (AutoCAD, Solid Edge).
• Experience of and ability to use the Company IT tools (Microsoft Office, Project and Outlook etc).
• Experience of the use of Excel and Mathcad for the preparation of calculations would be useful.
