Design Engineer
Job Purpose
To undertake responsibility for the design of precast products, supervision of technicians and manufacturing input to factories. To ensure that all contracts meet the specific agreement set out in the tender specification and that cost allocations are met. To provide technical input and design for civils products. To be able to progress work with minimum level of supervision and to act on own initiative to achieve goals.
Major Tasks
1.Respond to customer requests/enquiries to discuss possible design solutions around our products at concept stage.
2.Develop designs at tender stage to a level sufficient for estimators to provide a firm price.
3.Co-ordinate detailing of designs for tender submissions.
4.Communicate tender design information to designers and detailers on successful contracts.
5.Design of company products including supervising and checking the work of technicians.
6.Factory and site visits to deal with technical and contractual issues.
7.Attend internal design team meetings.
8.Report to Design manager.
Job Activities
1.Design Issues - Contract Related
a.Communicate with the factory concerning design and technical issues.
b.Feedback information to relevant design team members
c.Liaise with clients engineers to clarify information and ensure a smooth transition into factory production.
d.Report discrepancies by means of Non Conformance report to the relevant departments.
2.Tender Design & Detailing
aProduce value engineered designs with safe, optimum layout and element details for tenders in accordance with the clients specification. Provide sufficient details for estimating to produce firm price quotations.
bProvide pre-contract support for sales and marketing department.
3.Conversion of Tender Designs to Scheme Details
aEnsure design philosophy used at tender stage is implemented on schemes including monitoring of material quantities and programme.
bAssist Design manager in monitoring material content and progress of design work.
cImplement designer duties in accordance with section 13 of the CDM regulations.
dComplete and supervise design work to relevant standards. Monitor progress of work including checking function and compliance with QA requirements.
eAssist Design manager in planning resourcing and procurement of design activities.
