Description
Formed in 1986 and comprising 21 European member states, EUMETSAT's role is to establish, operate and exploit European meteorological satellite systems. Data from these systems are essential for precise and accurate weather forecasting; they also assist global earth observation and climatological programmes and directly benefit national economies by enabling marine, agricultural, aviation and other industries to plan and act more effectively.
Currently the systems include two generations of geostationary Meteosat satellites whose global overview is now complemented by the detailed observations provided by polar orbiting MetOp satellites.
Within the Maintenance and Engineering Division of the Operations Department, the Configuration Management Team Leader will be responsible for Configuration Management and Anomaly Reports Administration activities for all operational systems at EUMETSAT. He/She will report to the Head of Maintenance and Engineering Division (MED). The main activities will be to define upstream source code configuration management requirements, refine and maintain the operations CM Processes, supervise the development and maintenance of CM tools and databases and lead a team of Configuration Management engineers.
A University Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is necessary, combined with a minimum of four years experience in conducting Configuration Management of large scale, software-centred systems in an operational environment, preferably for high availability (24x7) systems. Alternatively, 5-10 years experience as a key user of Configuration Management for large-scale systems, with a very good understanding of CM processes complemented by appropriate technical skills regarding CM tools and S/W management.
The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in one of these languages and also have a working knowledge of the other.
Based in Darmstadt, the post is offered on an initial four-year contract.
