Commodity Manager - for this leading defence & communications company based in Middlesex to source and develop suppliers and teaming partners capable of meeting our customer's requirements and committed to the principles of cost reduction programmes and the development of flexibility within the supply chain.
Responsible for the selection of & negotiation with major suppliers to achieve on time delivery at an agreed price and lowest cost of ownership. The purchase of all materials for both manufacturing & engineering. Develop a strategic approach to supply chain management & implement best practise techniques. Facilitate the use of the intranet as a means of trading with the supply base.
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience managing MRP and major sub-contracts within the Military sector. A self-starter capable of negotiating both internally and with the supplier base to achieve the goals of the business. Qualified CIPS member preferably by examination.
Main Responsibilities include cost reduction, review MRP output and direct the buyers as required to enable the most advantage price negotiation whilst ensuring supply to manufacturing meets the customer's needs. Develop the relationship to ensure a degree of trust and understanding is fostered. To identify and plan for potential long term CLS contracts at the start of the project. Day to day management of the buyers. To work with the bid team involving suppliers at the earliest stage possible. To work with the relevant project managers and engineering to identify sub-contractors and teaming partners. To know the critical path for each project and set up self monitoring at the suppliers such that any potential programme slips would be flagged up to the company. To work with the materials manager to introduce best practise including the introduction of internet for purchasing, rescheduling and obtaining quotes. To visit suppliers to identify strengths and weaknesses. To develop with the SQA engineer a new supplier rating system and implement with suppliers to increase the number of parts that are delivered to the point of use or stores.
