Civil Engineers are now required to assist the Head of Project Planning and Delivery in the design and supervision of new port related engineering works, to act as project manager or to assist in project teams to provide technical assistance on building and civil engineering maintenance works where appropriate.
Civil Engineers will assist in the preparation of designs, contract documents, specifications, drawings, risk and environmental assessments for the execution of building, civil engineering, dredging and other port related works which are to be carried out by contract. You will act, when required, as Engineer's Representative or Employer's Representative in accordance with the appropriate Conditions of Contract. You will also act in the capacity of Planning Supervisor when appointed by the General Manager Technical Services Delivery and assist, when required, as Employer's Representative in agreeing interim certificates for payment, final accounts and claims resolution on engineering projects.

Civil Engineers will assist in the preparation of designs, contract documents, specifications, drawings, risk and environmental assessments for the execution of building, civil engineering, dredging and other port related works which are to be carried out by contract. This role will also involve liaising with architects, consultants and quantity surveyors appointed to take control of a project, including the formulation of the "brief" and the progress of work on site in respect of brief, time, quality, safety, financial targets and operational constraints. You will manage the activities of the Boards inspecting staff to ensure contractual compliance with the specifications, drawings risk and environmental assessments. You will ensure that site records are maintained to enable works to be measured and evaluated with the assistance of inspecting staff and/or others.
Furthermore you will regularly furnish reports for financial and progress reports on contract works, and as required for the Head of Project Planning and Delivery. Your responsibilities will also be to design and prepare specifications and drawings for maintenance work and items of new work to be carried out by the Board's Maintenance Section as required. You will provide estimates and feasibility studies for proposed new schemes and alterations to existing structures. You will also identify and manage risks, particularly those which affect safety, and to ensure that all tasks under your control are performed with the utmost regard for health and safety. You will facilitate effective communication on risk and safety issues between the team and senior management. In addition you may also be asked to carry out other tasks assigned by the supervisor or manager from time to time. Such duties will, however, be reasonable in relation to the jobholders skills, abilities and status.
