• JOB: CAD/PLM Support Engineer • LOCATION: Sheffield • SALARY: £23,000 - £27,000


Our client one of the world's leading engineering and plant building companies for the international metals industry is currently have a position for a CAD/PLM Support Engineer.

Role

• Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the CAD/PLM Support Engineer will be responsible for the smooth and efficient day to day running of the companies CAD and PLM systems. This will include the maintenance and policing of the systems and the procedures for their use and co-ordinating where necessary with others to develop and improve the systems.

Tasks

• To provide First Line Support to users of the CAD and PLM system to overcome their day to day problems. Unsolved problems should be logged with the IT Help Desk and followed up through to solution.
• Provide Operator Training to the CAD and PLM system users.
• To understand, enforce and cultivate the companies policies and procedures with regard to best use of the CAD and PLM systems, particularly best practices associated with use of Solid Edge where poor practices cause serious operational difficulties.
• Model Policing - Conduct random spot checks on CAD files produced by the Engineering team and sub-contractors (especially Solid Edge) to ensure Best Practice is being followed. Produce reports / check lists to identify trends and demonstrate compliance.
• Set-up Sub Contractor remote system access contracts and facilities (e.g. Partner Room) as required.
• To populate PLM databases with Project specific data as required (e.g. Create Project structure and set up user access at the start of a project).
• To work with the appropriate management team (e.g. Business Systems) to resolve issues with the CAD and PLM systems, both internally and externally.
• To act as a local administrator for the CAD and PLM system.

Education / Knowledge

The following are desirable requirements for the position

• Educated to UK A Level standards or a related IT qualification

Experience

• At least one year's experience in a busy design office dealing with technical matters including drafting and possibly design. The ability to create and therefore read engineering drawings in a heavy engineering environment is essential.
• Preferably a general knowledge of rolling mill or heavy engineering products.
• Knowledge of PC hardware, operating systems, software installation and configuration and networking would be useful.

Computer Literate with:-

• 2D & 3D CAD Systems, preferably AutoCAD Mechanical & Solid Edge.
• PLM systems, preferably with experience of SAP or TeamCentre.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office
• Knowledge of Visual Basic, .Net and/or Lisp would be useful.
