An opportunity has arisen for a Business Development Manager to join the Commercial Department (Sales, Bids and Marketing) of Europes second largest steel producer. The purpose of this role is to explore the internal and external market place to identify and develop value added business opportunities which can be used to promote the capabilities and viability of the business units, in order to secure revenue streams from existing and new customers
This role is a key position within the sales team as you will interface closely with the General sales team and will be responsible for submitting Bids / proposals to the customer as well as negotiating and securing orders. You will have overall responsibility for securing work from a steel-related market, in particular caster development. However, knowledge of other external markets (Nuclear, Defence, Cement etc) is essential.
Your main aims will be to understand the business offerings then develop, manage and grow, revenue streams in line with the business (his will probably be very much steel related), as well as to secure contracts from an existing customer base that has been established for circa 20years
You should be qualified to at least HNC level, ideally degree level in Mechanical Engineering, and an MBA would be desirable, although is not essential. It is likely you may have come through the technical apprenticeship route and will have some experience in a similar Business Development role.
A team player with a commercial and technical background, you will have sound knowledge of heavy engineering coupled with some Steel sector knowledge (casters). You should also have a proven track record of achieving goals. As Business Development Manager, you should have considerable experience of preparing tenders, and of estimating practices and experience and knowledge of the business units they represent.

You must be capable of negotiating major contracts with Senior Representatives of other Work areas and external organisations and have a broad understanding of contract conditions and their applications, as well as knowledge of specialist suppliers for pricing and support of specialist items outside the business units capabilities
