Job Description
Provide an effective first line contact for technical support within the Lead Discovery and Hit Discovery departments. Ensure that equipment is in good working order, within manufacturer's tolerances and in compliance with all relevant regulations. By direct liaison with client departments, ensure that all breakdown / fault situations are dealt with and rectified as rapidly as possible. In instances where an immediate repair is not possible, provide details to the necessary channels and assist in providing information relating to a technical nature. When required, provide application support and technical advice for the purpose of general use, purchase of new equipment and development of existing practices and methods. Provide a contact point for service engineers, application staff and in house services, for technical issues relating to the equipment within the teams remit and the subsidiary appliances and services. Assist in maintaining the established relationships between the manufacturers providing service contracts and monitor work carried out within these agreements to support future discounts.
Main Responsibilities and Duties
•Fault detection and rectification for HTS equipment (e.g. Robolab or Sagian robot- tracks, Velocity 11 automated lab equipment, Select, twister arms, random access and 96/384/1536 displacement volume dispensers, detectors, washers).
•Liaison with equipment manufacturers' to identify problems and to affect solutions either via the manufacturer, via company engineering, or in person.
•Implement routine preventative maintenance schedules for various types of frequently used liquid handling equipment.
•Programming of HTS peripherals.
•Direct, or undertake, maintenance of low volume liquid handling devices, linear track and pi robots, and laser based fluorescence measurement devices. Ensure that these are performing within tolerance and to clients' needs.
•Assembling and testing of new combinations of robotic and detection hardware (new and old) to provide maximum flexibility.
•Provide training to equipment users relating to software parameters and operator-based variables.
•Adopt a responsible approach to all safety issues around the use of semi-automated and automated equipment and their associated mechanical, electrical, chemical and biological hazards.
•Ensure that personal work is within Pfizer procedures and provide instruction where possible to allow outside engineers to work within these.
•Provide feedback to team members and client departments regarding work in progress, resolution times and cost / implications of work.
•Employ effective prioritisation to in progress and incoming work, providing feedback and alternative options where possible.
