Head of function, and responsible for improving asset performance whilst ensuring improved value from a sizeable budget...
Asset & Reliability Manager Mechanical Engineering - BAA Gatwick
Salaries to c. £52,000 inc. car allowance + bonus (to 25%) + major benefits package
BAA Gatwick is a highly successful and profitable business, and is undergoing a major review of the way it operates and maintains its £2Billion asset base. As a result, some major new career opportunities have been created to help BAA in making this step change introducing practices & techniques widely used throughout Manufacturing and other sectors to drive performance improvement and ensure the profitable growth of the Airport.
Successfully applying World Class practices presents a major management challenge for most large organisations, but particularly in a busy airport environment given the complexity and scale, as well as one with origins as a state-owned institution. Gatwick now operates the busiest single runway in the World, as well as the infrastructure that supports the arrival & departure of 32 Million passengers a year. Profitable to the tune of £750 million, the Airports immediate plans include a near doubling of passenger capacity.
Head of function, and responsible for improving asset performance whilst ensuring improved value from a sizeable budget (Gatwick total maintenance and replacement > £50M pa), you will lead a team of Asset Planning & Project Co-ordination Engineers, and as part of Gatwicks core management team champion new processes, methods & maintenance culture. You will be responsible for equipment availability/reliability levels to internal and external customers, for the CMMS systems that control and schedule PPM activity, for the ongoing, measurable decline in reactive maintenance requirement, and act as the Airports highest level of technical stewardship for its mechanical assets... with colleagues at the same level having a parallel focus on electrical & civil ones.
Candidates will be Graduate qualified Mechanical Engineers - ideally Chartered -with a mix of outstanding technical competence and a modern, consultative, makes things happen through others approach. Additional credibility will be required in the following areas:
Committed to modern Reliability Engineering techniques (OEE, CM, TPM etc)
As well as broader Continuous Improvement philosophies (6 Sigma, Kaizen etc)
Strongly developed leadership skills, learned in a complex environment where engineering is integrated into a customer-facing culture
Excellent planning, IT, communication and relationship building skills
