To be responsible for environmental impact and safety compliance of products.
To support the Approvals Manager, Consultant Safety Approvals Engineer and Senior Approvals Engineer with the activities given below.
Primarily to ensure that products are designed and qualified in accordance with applicable product environmental design requirements.
A secondary role is to support the Approvals Department in ensuring that products are designed and qualified in accordance with applicable product safety requirements.
The research of international environmental requirements and legislation that impact on the design of products.
The assessment of product designs against environmental impact requirements (e.g. RoHS compliance, power consumption, design for recycling, life cycle analysis).
Preparation of environmental impact audit reports to support the product development process.
Provide advice to development and support services teams on the design of products to minimise their environmental impact.
Ensuring that products are designed to meet the requirements of relevant international packaging regulations (e.g. EU Packaging & Waste Regulations and the international Green Dot Scheme).
Collating environmental impact data both for inclusion in company reports and for submission to regulatory authorities.
May be required to attend external meetings with industry bodies to research requirements and to represent company interests.
Familiarity with the requirements of IEC60065 and IEC60950 based safety standards would be an advantage.
Supporting the preparation of test reports, product audits to support internal design validation procedures.
Supporting the assessment, testing and submission of products for approval by international approval agencies (e.g. BEAB, BSI, UL, CSA) and ongoing maintenance.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience
Essential
Some experience of product design for environmental compliance.
Familiarity with international environmental impact legislation.
Degree/HND or equivalent.
Knowledge of international environmental legislation and requirements.
Desirable
Some experience of product design and testing for safety compliance.
Some knowledge of international safety standards and requirements.
