(SENIOR) MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
POWER CONVERSION SYSTEMS
RUGBY

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work within the Electrical Machines Manufacturing Unit in Rugby to produce mechanical design and manufacturing/purchasing instructions on a wide range of individual projects for customised or specially engineered large rotating electrical machines.

You will be required to ensure that the mechanical engineering output for individual allocated projects is produced in an accurate and timely manner, within budget, to provide project technical liaison with manufacturing, suppliers and customers, to provide assurance of mechanical design integrity providing product safety, in accordance with company procedures and to supply technical advice and investigations in support of factory, site or warranty issues.

To succeed as (Senior) Mechanical Design Engineer you should be educated to degree level or equivalent in mechanical engineering, with demonstrable experience within the design of large rotating machinery, ideally a.c. motors and/or generators. The position requires a strong capability in stress analysis by traditional methods, and it will be useful if you also have knowledge of the use of the finite element method.

Experience of the design/selection of associated rotating machinery equipment such as gearboxes, couplings and lubrication systems, and of machinery ventilation and acoustic treatments would be an advantage, as well as knowledge of rotor dynamincs, fluid dynamics and heat transfer, and the the use of CFD. You should be prepared to travel occasionally, both within the UK and abroad as part of this role and should have a flexible approach to working hours is expected to respond to the fluctuating demands of the Company's business.
